I love that I can get that without any snark that might be warranted [nearly posted a technical question on another forum, until I saw how they treated a newbie who asked what seemed to me to be a perfectly reasonable question] -
Oooh, that attitude pisses me off!
We all forget stuff; we all have blank spots in our education; we all have brain farts; we all have preconceived notions that block our understanding or our ingenuity.
Why give up a chance to seem like the hero? Or the chance to feel like the honored expert?
OK, sure, if you snark at someone, you get to feel superior. But they won't admire you for it. If the only way you can feel good about yourself is to make someone else feel bad--let me tell you, BOY are you missing out!
I have the rep at work of being the person who knows everything about our computer system. Believe me, having people ooh and aah at your expertise is WAY more gratifying than proving to myself that I'm smarter. I've proven to THEM that I'm smarter!
And then they feel comfortable coming and asking me some OTHER question, and I get to feel like the smart superhero all over again.
Truly, being nice to people who ask you for your expertise is the ego gift that keeps on giving.
And it's fun to see people learn things!
