Request, please
« on: May 29, 2018, 08:14:28 am »
Hi there Admins,

Please may we have a "go up" and "go down" button please?  I'm so used to how that worked on EH, that I'm finding the scrolling a bit irritating...

Keep up the good work,

Miriam

In the meantime, use Page Up and Page Down on your keyboard. Or the HOME key will take you to the top too.

D'oh! ::) :-[

I'm a fervent advocate of keystrokes to my husband; now I'm wearing the HatOfShameTM to go with my red face. :-[ :-[ :-[

I don't like that the embarrassed smiley looks a bit cross - I just need it to be furiously blushing! ;D

Haha! I won't tell you how long it took me to think of that! We sure do get used to doing things one way, don't we.

My keyboard doesn't have those keys. (it's a mini keyboard, and my DH threw out the big one)

But a tap on the space bar will scroll down, and shift+spacebar will scroll up. (unless you've clicked on a box, or something)

This is one of the reasons I wanted to stay with the former-EH community: not only can you guys fix my etiquette problems [lather, rinse, repeat of "That will not be possible" has saved me from many a blow-up ;D], but you make my life easier/better in so many ways.

Thanks for the helpful advice; I love that I can get that without any snark that might be warranted [nearly posted a technical question on another forum, until I saw how they treated a newbie who asked what seemed to me to be a perfectly reasonable question] - you make me feel like you're reminding me of something I've forgotten, rather than making me feel an idiot because I didn't know/forgot. :-*

Oooh, that attitude pisses me off!

We all forget stuff; we all have blank spots in our education; we all have brain farts; we all have preconceived notions that block our understanding or our ingenuity.

Why give up a chance to seem like the hero? Or the chance to feel like the honored expert?

OK, sure, if you snark at someone, you get to feel superior. But they won't admire you for it. If the only way you can feel good about yourself is to make someone else feel bad--let me tell you, BOY are you missing out!

I have the rep at work of being the person who knows everything about our computer system. Believe me, having people ooh and aah at your expertise is WAY more gratifying than proving to myself that I'm smarter. I've proven to THEM that I'm smarter!

And then they feel comfortable coming and asking me some OTHER question, and I get to feel like the smart superhero all over again.

Truly, being nice to people who ask you for your expertise is the ego gift that keeps on giving.

And it's fun to see people learn things!

This is why you've got that reputation - your willingness to help - there's probably someone else who knows just as much, but I wouldn't send a co-worker to Miss Snarky if I knew that Ms Nice could give the same answer and improve the happiness of all concerned.  Kindness is a gift that keeps on giving.
